Read the medicine words
Examine an offer
Ask for the medicine name behind the offer
Ask which product sits behind the words “gut health.” Then ask why that particular option is being raised for you.
Keep the exact words
Save the product name and the claim being made about it. Take both into the conversation.
Untangle the words in the offer
These terms describe different things. Ask the clinician to explain any term that still feels unclear.
Peptide
In a peptide, tiny chemical parts are linked into a short chain. Proteins contain those same parts.
Compounding
Compounding means preparing a medicine for a patient rather than using a finished drug-company product.
For instance, compounding may leave out a dye that the patient is allergic to.
Beside the evidence
FDA review and medicines made to order
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given no approval to compounded medicines, as of September 2026.
Before a compounded product is marketed, FDA does not check its quality, benefits or safety.
A medicine made to order can be legal if it meets compounding rules. FDA says it may help when approved medicines cannot meet a patient’s medical need.
Ask the clinician which rules allow the exact medicine being offered to you.
Read the FDA account of compounding
Move from the label to your own concern
Ask the clinician to connect the proposed product with the problem being assessed.
What is this medicine’s name? Would I swallow it, have it injected, or take it another way?
Has FDA approved this medicine for the use we are discussing?
Why discuss this option for me?
What evidence supports the claim being made?
What other approaches can we discuss?
