Ways to seek care
Your gut concern comes first
Choose the kind of conversation you want
Consider an online appointment or an in-person clinic. Ask each service whether it assesses your concern before asking about a treatment.
Ask about the scope
What will this visit cover, and what will it leave for someone else?
Compare what each visit covers
Use these questions to work out which setting you want to explore.
An online appointment
Ask whether you can discuss your concern directly and how an exam or testing would be arranged.
An in-person clinic
Ask which concerns the visit can assess and how to share past care records.
Further care after a visit
If you need to see someone else, ask who arranges that visit and keeps you informed while you wait.
Beside the evidence
Expect the same care online
The medical-board advice says an online visit must meet the care standards expected when you meet in person.
As checked in September 2026, this advice is a suggested approach for state licensing boards. The rules your doctor must follow come from the state.
Ask the service which state rules apply to your appointment and where you can read them.
Read the medical-board federation’s care policy
Make a short list of practical needs
Write down what would help you take part in the visit. Ask the service about it before making arrangements.
A chance to speak rather than type.
Help with the technology or with language.
A clear route for an exam nearby.
A way to share records with the person already caring for me.
